Matt Bromley, aka Bromdog, comes from Capetown in South Africa, and is regarded as one of the best big wave surfers in the world.

Growing up in Kommetjie just outside of Capetown, Matt first started out as a competitive surfer, wining many titles across South Africa before he fell in love with big wave surfing at the age of 20.

“Surfing had always been my passion, but surfing in contests I didn’t feel I was reaching my full potential. One day I paddled out at Dungeons near my house, nearly drowned on my first wave and was about to give up when a huge wide set come in. I turned around, took off and rode the best wave of my life. After that moment I knew I wanted to be a big wave surfer.”

These days Bromdog follows the biggest waves around the world, pushing the limits of what is surfable, while still charging his home breaks in South Africa.
